Shinichi Doi
Shinichi Doi began his career at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1968. He served as a conservator in the Conservation Department of the Met Museum, and he had been relied on by all departments at the Met Museum for his great restoration technique. His restoration works include “Statue of a Wounded Warrior,” “Statue of a Wounded Amazon,” representing the Greek and Roman art department, and “The Assembly of the Buddha Shakyamuni,” representing 14th-century Chinese art. In addition, the New York Times wrote an article about his outstanding work restoring the Islamic Dish in 1984. He has been called the “Art doctor” and “Diplomat in Art” for his restoration techniques and passion for art. His most memorable work was restoring a cracked slate chalkboard from the FDNY’s Engine Company 22 and Ladder Company 13. The board had the names of thirteen firefighters hastily written down the morning of September 11th. It was featured extensively in the New York Times.
In addition to his career as a restorer, he has continued his career as an artist for nearly 70 years.

Invitation to a Painting Exhibition
In this season of clear autumn skies, I sincerely hope that everyone is in good health and spirits.
Thanks to your support, I, Shinichi Doi, have reached the age of 91. I once again take to heart the words of the late great priest Takada Koin, who said, “At 90 years old, life is only halfway through!” For me, this marks a halfway point in my painting journey, a process of training to repay the many favors I have received from all of you.
This time, I have taken on the challenge of capturing the “heart of humanity” through heartfelt expressions of gratitude. With the ongoing support of the Kita Nihon Newspaper Company, which has always kindly understood and supported my work, I am pleased to announce that the exhibition will be held at the gallery in the headquarters of the Kita Nihon Newspaper Company.
I would be most grateful if you could find the time to attend and enjoy the exhibition.
